Beau Peterson and 4-year-old gelding Hez Talkin Smack ran away with the Gold Buckle Futurities Breakaway Futurity title in route to a massive $45,657 in earnings at the Spring Showdown in Ardmore, Oklahoma, besting the field by nearly 11 points.

Hez Talkin Smack, by enrolled Elite Stallion Smooth Talkin Style and out of Lanas Little Dual by Dual Banditos Gold, claimed Rounds 2 and 3 with a 927.11 on four head, securing the aggregate title and $6,258 for owner Shane Hanchey. Peterson and Hez Talkin Smack picked up $13,675 for the Elite Stallion Incentive win, with 50% of that money going to Smooth Talkin Style.
“The first time I’d ever shown him was at the RFA, and we did really good,” Peterson said. “We won a lot of money over there. He’s such an easy 4-year-old. You get on him and you think you’re on a veteran. The judges loved him and for good reason. He doesn’t make any mistakes really… he showed off and drug his butt. He can stop really good.”
Peterson also placed on three horses in the average in the Maturity Breakaway, headlined by her second-place finish on Hanchey’s Rollin On The River.
“He was lights out all day,” Peterson said. “He just does his job every single time, makes it easy on me and makes me look good.”
Aldo The Apache, Peterson’s 2020 gelding by Kit Kat Sugar out of DMac Easter Bunny by Young Gun, took the Maturity Tie-Down Roping title with Beau Cooper for $6,750. He followed it up with a win in the Gold Buckle Stallion Incentive, adding $14,375 to the total payout, with $7,187.50 of that going to enrolled Elite Stallion Kit Kat Sugar.

From standout performances by both Peterson and Cooper to a stacked roster of talent across all divisions, the rest of the leaderboard reflected the depth of competition in Ardmore.
