Cheyanne McCartney hopped a ride on the 4-year-old daughter of High Brow CD, Platinum Pluss, to daylight the field in the Gold Buckle Futurities’ 4-&-Under Breakaway, worth $18,000 for her day’s work.
Platinum Pluss, owned by American Rodeo champ Sarah Angelone, and McCartney scored a 919.13 on four head, winning the futurity’s main average, including its $10,000 Gold Buckle Bonus for the title. Marissa Boisjoli and CR Tuff Pep were second, a lengths back with a 900.78 on four for $5,000 in the main average.
“Sarah called me the night before,” McCartney said. “She said she wasn’t going to be able to make it, and she got a ride for this horse to my house. She had sent me a couple videos, and said she’d taken it to a jackpot or two.”
The horse looked easy to rope on for NFBR average champ McCartney, though she’d never ridden behind Angelone before.
“She didn’t move in the box, tracks the calf really good, pays attention to it and drags her butt,” McCartney said. “She’s a flashy, easy little horse.”
Canadian standout Marissa Boisjoli won the Gold Buckle Elite Stallion Incentive in the 4-&-Under Breakaway Futurity on CR Tuff Pep, by Gold Buckle Elite Stallion Woody Be Tuff. The horse also won second in the main average for $5,000 with a score of 900.78, getting another $10,000 (split $5,000 to Boisjoli and $5,000 to Woody Be Tuff owners Solo Select and Kaleb Terlip). Boisjoli also won the Intermediate Incentive on the horse for another $2,700 and the first round of the roping for $1,000.
