Peterson and her 4-year-old Aldo The Apache led the pack of high-money earners across tie-down and breakaway horses at the Nov. 14-15 event.
Beau Peterson had a banner weekend back in May in Ardmore at the Gold Buckle Futurity’s Spring Event, winning $86,200 over two days, but she topped that six months later with a $97,000 showing in Abilene, Texas Nov. 14-15 at the Gold Buckle’s Fall Event.
Council Grove, Kansas’s Peterson, 24, won $49,900 in the 4-&-Under Breakaway Futurity on three horses (Metallic Watch, Aldo The Apache and Mighty Fine Talker) Nov. 14, plus another $33,400 in the 6-&-Under Breakaway Maturity Nov. 15 on Rollin On The River and Ohh Its A Boon.
Then, Peterson’s breakaway futurity champ Aldo The Apache grabbed another $13,700 with Beau Cooper in the tie-down futurity. Aldo The Apache, a 2020 gelding by Kit Kat Sugar out of Dmac Easter Bunny by Young Gun, had $39,870 in lifetime earnings before the November Gold Buckle event. He picked up another $40,200 Nov. 14-15.
“I bought him after watching Haven and Shelby Meged’s Lil Punch go at the Finals, because he’s a Kit Kat Sugar,” Peterson explained. “I stumbled across this one. I got him in January of this year, and that’s when he started in the breakaway. He’s been super easy. He’s gritty too. He’s little—he’s probably not 14 hands. But he does whatever you ask him.”
Aldo The Apache’s sire, Kit Kat Sugar, has produced earners of $12,136,872, with $10,122,724 coming in the cutting and just $494,673.33 the roping, per QData, though, for the most part, that only includes earnings at rope horse futurities and AQHA shows. (Rodeo earnings are not tracked unless owners or riders opt to enroll horses in one of the industry’s specialized tracking programs.)
“That horse has paid for himself more than a few times over,” Peterson said. “Beau Cooper has made eight runs total on him, and he’s done great. I don’t think he’ll be big enough to make a big-time tie-down horse, but his future looks great in the breakaway.”
