Aldo The Apache topped Petersonโs list of earners at the Nov. 14-15 event.
Beau Peterson and her string of horses won $97,000 at the 2024 Gold Buckle Futurities Fall Event, leading the pack of breakaway roping earners on the week.
The Breakaway Roping Journal caught up with her after her nearly six-figure two days in Abilene, Texas.
Tell me about Aldo The Apache. This isnโt the first time weโve talked about him, because youโve won good throughout the year on him, too.
Aldo is a 4-year-old I started January of this year. In May at Ardmore, he won good there, too. Heโs just been so much fun. Heโs been super easy. Heโs gritty too. Heโs littleโheโs probably not 14 hands. Heโs super gritty and he does what you ask him.
What does practice look like on one thatโs this good, this young?
I have kind of been practicing on him at the house. You can go at them. Iโve been practicing for myself on him more than anything. That allows me to be comfortable going at the barrier and exposing myself when I get to a futurity. Thereโs fine line between a jackpot and horse-show run, and with him, I can go at them and heโll show himself.
Whatโs his style like?
Honestly he doesnโt have just a huge stop. Itโs showy enough and enough to pop it off. He doesnโt just slide a mile. He gets in there, pops it off and itโs done. He stops better in the tie-down, really. Itโs just enough. Itโs not any big, huge, pretty stop. Itโs enough to get the job done.
And heโs been a superstar in the tie-down, too?
He won second with Beau Cooper again. Beau won first in Ardmore on him, and he won second on him at Abilene. Beauโs made 8 runs on him ever, and heโs done great. Heโs not big enough to make a big-league tie-down horse in the long run, and I see more of a future in breakaway for him for his longevity. Heโs going to make a good horse. I want to futurity him and take it easy on him and not push him too hard.
